Yep come to South Africa this is the nightmare of service standards.
That of yours is still good service here you only find out 4 months later you signed a contract verbally you don't know about.

yeah i would be calling back to confirm that i hadn't really signed a 2yr agreement despite what anyone told me. and that your status on upgrade is as it should be. maybe e-mail them and get written confirmation somewhere. phone companies are just like that. my worst experiences have been with AT&T. (and i've been with sprint!)

or just jailbreak it.
